Rockaway Township is Morris County’s largest municipality by area covering over 45.5 square miles with approximately 24,500 residents. Rockaway Township enjoys an excellent public school system, an outstanding free public library and exceptional recreational programs for the most important people of our community, the children.
Rockaway Township is home to some of the most beautiful & picturesque parts of Morris County, three beautiful lake communities, many small rivers and streams, miles of hiking trails, Farny State Park, Wildcat Ridge & Mount Hope Historical Park, all that along with mountain ranges covered by many varieties of foliage and wildlife. The Township is also home to Splitrock and Charlotteburg Reservoirs providing drinking water to the cities of Jersey City and Newark respectively.
In addition, Rockaway Township has two historical sites on the National Registry of Historic Places: the Split Rock furnace, which is a Civil War era iron ore furnace which is still standing to this day and a 1768 Revolutionary War era stone dwelling the Ford-Faesch house. The Faesch house was a significant piece of Morris County history during the 250 years that the iron industry was prosperous in northern New Jersey.
